How was it for you?
I’m feeling rather inadequate. I’ve been looking at the roundups of 2007 on some of my favourite blogs and these industrious people have posted lots of worthy articles of immense help and/or interest to the web community.
I seem to have posted dross.
To be fair, I set this blog up in 2007 and I’m still feeling my way to a certain extent. It was an appalling year from word go so rather than concentrate on new techniques and cutting edge stuff I’ve been preoccupied with car repairs, flood damage and illness. It just seems to have been one thing after another and I can safely say I’m glad to see the back of it as long as 2008 brings improvements.
My 2007.
- Flu
- High Winds - a neighbour’s chimney landed on my car - massive repair bill and entirely my own fault for having bought an import sports car which requires all parts to be shipped in from Japan.
- Garden fencing was blown down. Broken panels and posts had to be replaced.
- Harv got flu
- Client refuses to pay for work on a web site, says he can’t afford it, despite having signed off on the contract and accepted the site. Legal stuff takes forever
- Mother got flu - late 70s - knocked her for six. Round trips of 140 miles a time to sort her out
- Mother got Shingles. More round trips
- Floods. Knee deep in water outside the house.
- Car needed major work having been sat in a foot of water during the floods
- All new garden fencing collapsed as a result of the floods
- Kidney infection. Suspected cause - wading around in dirty water during the floods
- Harv got Norovirus
- Harv gave me Norovirus
- Mother got Norovirus (More round trips)
- Subsequent to the floods and one month’s rain falling in a couple of hours, house has damp problems. Spent weeks trying to find a builder who specialises in old buildings.
and…..
- to round the year off nicely in my usual fashion (read - ill and unable to celebrate anything with alcohol) I got suspected Vertigo which now turns out to be something else which requires eye tests, blood tests and a brain scan. Dang! Somebody finally realised that I may not have a brain and have been faking it all this time

With all that went down on your end, Gill, it’s a surprise your were able to write at all. But if it’s any consolation, I rather enjoyed some of the articles you did find time to write between disasters. Here’s hoping your 2008 runs a bit more smoothly

It hasn’t been dross. It’s been interesting, it’s been funny, it’s been witty. Admittedly, it hasn’t been regular enough, but you’re only a beginner

And you actually found time to write? If I had half of that happened to me I’d probably whine on top of my lungs. Anyway hope 2008 will be better for you at least health-vise.

[…] not, it was nothing that drastic. I went to get the results of an MRI scan. Let me backtrack a bit. 2007 was an awful year for me, it was one thing after another. I’ve always been pretty healthy but I just kept getting […]
