Happy Thing

Posted December 21st, 2007 by Jaybee

xmas.pngOffice decorations have been outlawed due to Health and Safety regulations. 70% of UK schools aren’t having a Nativity Play any more due to the fact it might offend other religions. ACAS, the arbitration and conciliation people have pointed out that if your office Christmas party doesn’t provide an age neutral entertainment package then you could be sued for ageism.

They also point out that if you hold a Christmas raffle and offer alcohol as a prize then you could be offending Muslims who can’t gamble or drink. Further, if you are a boss and your staff get completely bladdered at your party, you could be liable if they don’t get home safely.

A College in Rotherham have been forced to back down after they announced they would only offer halal chicken for Christmas Dinner. A Women’s Institute party was wrecked as they were unable to comply, at instant notice, with the safety laws and posters required prior to them eating mince pies they had baked and taken along for the occasion.

A Carol Concert was cancelled when a resident insisted they needed an entertainment licence and objected to it when they did apply. Primary Schools in Surrey aren’t allowed to sing “Partridge in a pear tree” they have been told to change it to “Cornbird in a Palm Tree”.

The list of sheer lunacy goes on and on.

Who is pushing this? Muslims? Hindus? Any group with a vested interest? No, it’s the white, middle aged suits and bureauprats with a guilt complex. So in the spirit of everything these killjoys stand for, I would like to wish all my readers a

Merry Thing and a Prosperous Whatsit

and as comedian Dave Allen used to say…

May your God go with you

We were told all decorations are a fire hazard and the company insurance no longer covers them unless they pay a premium. I’m pretty certain all the loose sheets of paper lying around the place and piled up on top of the monitors is less fireproof than a few “flameproof” Xmas decorations.

Yes Joan the world has gone mad. Everyone is afraid of offending someone else. The litigation culture is off the scale and nobody in Govt is willing to put their foot down and say enough is enough.

Well I think I’m pretty safe in wishing you a Happy New Year…….. unless…… you’re not Chinese are you? ;-)
