Modern Web Design

Posted February 20th, 2008 by Jaybee

Every now and then I come across something on the web that I find truly funny.

This one made me laugh out loud. Whoever did it is definitely a developer who has struggled with accessible, semantic, valid sites and the hassles of Internet Explorer. Mystery artist, I feel your pain.

This link, takes you to the graphic of a Web Design Time Pie Chart on Photobucket. For those who need a text version and whose browser refuses to acknowledge Longdescs, keep reading.

Time Breakdown of Modern Web Design

2% - Time spent actually designing anything
35% - Time spent trying to get the layout to work using only CSS before giving up and using tables
8% - Swearing
2% - Time Spent making the site W3C compliant
43% - Time spent trying to get the bastard to work in Internet (expletive deleted) Explorer
5% - Time spent wishing a slow and painful death on Bill Gates plus more swearing
5% - Time spent looking for that one extra space in the Javascript that Firefox is throwing a wobbler over

My own breakdown would differ somewhat due to the fact that I refuse to give up and revert to using tables, and instead of Javascript read PHP, but other than that, you pretty much get the idea. One of these days Microsoft will give in and make their browser fully compliant and I’ll have so much time on my hands I might actually get a life.

Yeah, I’ve seen that before, but frankly it’s a joke. They need to allocate at least twice as much time for swearing, and where’s the “muttering darkly to yourself under your breath” category? Or is that just me?

I think the muttering darkly bit comes under the Bill Gates section but yes, that takes more than 5%. ;-)
