Well I guess this is where I tell you all about me……. hey I could just post one of the obligatory MySpace questionnaires so you get in-depth knowledge of what I like to eat for breakfast, what colour shoes I’m wearing right now and who I’d like to….. no, best not go there.
I was born at an early age and some time or other I was supposed to grow up but somewhere along the way I seem to have missed the bus. If you want all the boring technical stuff then you could just go read my
but that makes me sound all serious and professional, which I’m not.
One of the many reasons I started my own business was my dislike of the corporate world. Many high flyers take themselves far too seriously and there’s a massive amount of posturing which I can’t stand. The title of this blog, ‘Breezing the Shoot’ is poking fun at a pompous manager I once had who constantly peppered his meetings with ‘cool speak’. His favourite term at development discussions was that we were just “shooting the breeze”. When he booked us all into a team building week which consisted of sitting on the floor hurling insults at each other, I’d had enough. As a team building exercise though, it was a roaring success. The entire team resigned on the spot.
By now you’ve probably come to the conclusion that I’m a harebrained idiot who doesn’t take anything seriously. To a certain extent in my private life that’s true, life’s too short and all that, but when it comes to my business and my clients it’s a whole different ball game.
I love my work, sad but true. I get the biggest kick out of seeing a happy client when their site goes live and knowing I’ve done my absolute best with it. I’m passionate about making sure I’ve produced good quality and if I’ve ever skipped a corner for any reason it haunts me, keeping me awake at night, until I sort it out. As I learn more about accessibility for example, I’ve been known to go back to a site and fix things in my own time, at no cost to the client, just for my peace of mind.
So that’s me in a nutshell. You’ll learn a lot more as this blog progresses, some of which you’d probably rather you didn’t know but hey, isn’t that the point of blogs? If the whole thing gets too much for you then all I can say is blame Mike Cherim, he of the Green Beastie fame, and Helena Boylen of Little Blue Plane. Without those two banging on about WordPress and how good it is (I agree by the way) it would never have occurred to me to inflict myself on the world at large.
