The Two Faces of the Internet

Posted May 8th, 2008 by Jaybee

goodbad.png The Internet can be a wonderful thing. I’m constantly amazed by the doors it opens all over the world. I regularly shop in the US without having to leave home. Ummmm perhaps I should keep that quiet in case Customs and Excise see it.

I talk to people all over the world and I now have very good friends that I’ll probably never meet, but heck, you never know.

What a difference a day makes

Posted May 1st, 2008 by Jaybee

Last year I wrote a piece for BADD and asked what exactly ‘disabled’ was. This year I’m even more confused. You see on February 4th this year I walked into my local hospital fully able and came out an hour later ‘disabled’.

Good God! I hear you say, what on earth did they do? Can you sue?

2008 Blog against Disablism

Posted April 25th, 2008 by Jaybee

May 1st each year is officially Blogging Against Disablism day.

Started 3 years ago by Diary of a Goldfish, each year it goes from strength to strength with people from all walks of life posting interesting articles about their view of living with some sort of illness or disability, caring for the same or just people who care.

When I posted my blog last year I was in the last group. Since Feb 4th this year I’ve suddenly been transported to the first group. It’s been an interesting transformation.

If you’d like to join in on the day, go register your blog site with the Goldfish.

What got me motivated to write was Jack’s mention of Mike Newell, the then boss of struggling Luton Town Football Club, and his sexist comments about female game officials. This is one of those examples where you can honestly say, “it’s not like the old days”, and be pretty sure you’re not just looking back with rose coloured specs.

Decorating your site the W3C way

Posted February 27th, 2008 by Jaybee

w3c.pngYes, it’s the newest thing in web design. All you have to do is nip over to the W3C site and find the page with all the W3C Valid badges.

Don’t worry about the License agreement and terms of use:……. Just grab a few and then liberally slap them over your page. If your site happens to have the same colour scheme then so much the better but even if it doesn’t, a few strategically placed icons can make all the difference.
